Katherine is heartbroken by her baby’s disappearance and spends all her days praying to God and crying. Caleb asks for guidance from William, and William takes him hunting for food, and they discover that their crops are failing. William is asked by Caleb if his baby brother made it to heaven as he wasn't baptized yet. A hare suddenly appears in their midst, and William tries to shoot at it, but the gun backfires. They return to the farm, and the twins, Jonas, and Mercy begin to play with a black goat, whom they named Black Phillip.
There was tension brewing between Thomasin and Katherine. After the hunting trip, Caleb lies to his mother, Katherine, on William's behalf that they were out looking for apples. During nighttime, William and Katherine plan to bound Thomasin outside which was a common practice in the seventeenth- century where young women were removed from homes to work in a household elsewhere to learn house- maker skills. Thomasin and Caleb overhear this discussion. Her husband, William reveals to Katherine that he traded her silver and later, Thomasin finds Caleb on her way to check on the animals naked and weak.
The plot thickens as tensions brewed in the family. The twins accuse Thomasin of being a witch because Thomasin had teased Mercy earlier about being a witch. The family prays for Caleb as he begins to have a weird fit. Caleb seemed to have been broken free of the evil spell that was cast over him after throwing up a bloody apple.
Caleb passionately proclaims his complete love for Christ before he died before the eyes of his family. Thomasin was continuously accused of being a witch, and she retaliates by accusing the twins of being witches for consistently speaking the goat named Black Philip. William was enraged at the behavior of the children he had left since two had passed away and boards all three of them, Thomasin, Mercy, and Jonas, in the stable as punishment before going to bury Caleb. During the long night, William recounts and admits his sins of pride before God and Thomasin eavesdrops.
Later, the witch comes into the stable and begins to drink the blood of the goats, and this act frightens Thomasin and the twins who were bound at the stable. Meanwhile, inside the house, Katherine begins to see a vision of her children, Caleb, and Samuel and starts breast- feeding Samuel. In reality, the baby, Samuel is a raven who pecked on Katherine's breast and stained her shift with blood the following morning. The next day, William wakes up and goes outside to discover that the stable has been partially destroyed, and the twins had disappeared.
He is then gored by the goat, Black Phillip and he is pushed into a pile of firewood in the corner which falls on top his body and kills him. Thomasin tries to run to her father's side but is intercepted by Katherine, who accuses her of causing everything that's happened. Katherine tries to strangle Thomasin and in self- defense, Thomasin stabs her mother with a knife and Katherine dies. That night, Thomasin joins Black Phillip in the stable and speaks to him, and she agrees to serve him. Black Phillip takes his true form as Satan and tells her to remove her clothing, and signs her name in his book. Black Phillip takes Thomasin deep into the forest, and she comes across a bonfire which was surrounded by a coven of witches who were nude and engaged in worship.
Black Phillip goes close to the fire, and all the witches levitate high into the air. Thomasin joins them and rises above the Earth and begins to laugh.
